Information Clinics On The Arts Council’s Film Awards 2020.

Through its film awards, the Arts Council is interested in creating an environment in which film artists have the freedom to make work of an experimental and/or non-narrative nature and are given opportunities to make highly creative authored work for cinema exhibition.

In advance of upcoming deadlines for Reel Art, Authored Works and the Film Project award, the Arts Council, in association with AEMI, will hold information clinics in Triskel Arts Centre, Corkand the Irish Architectural Archive, Dublin. Prospective applicants are invited to attend one of these clinics where representatives from the Arts Council will discuss the awards and answer queries.

The clinics will be held on the following dates and times:

Thursday 2 April, 2020 from 14:30 – 16:30
Triskel Arts Centre, Tobin Street, Cork

Friday 3 April, 2020 from 11:00 – 13:00
Irish Architectural Archive, 45 Merrion Square E, Dublin 2

Upcoming awards and deadlines

Reel Art
The purpose of Reel Art is to provide film artists with the opportunity to make highly creative, imaginative and experimental documentaries on an artistic theme for cinema exhibition. Two films will be supported in 2020. A total fund of €102,500 will be made available to each of the successful applicants (to include a production budget of €90,000 and further exhibition support of €12,500). Only films that can be made within this budget will be considered. The films must be completed to premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival, our exhibition partner, in February 2022.

Film Project Award

The project award is for high-quality and creatively ambitious films of an experimental nature. The work should be filmic and be made with a view to engaging and challenging audiences and should be made for public exhibition in cinema settings in the first instance. Potential proposals could be those that: are experimental in form or content; are non-narrative in structure; involve creative use of technologies. Successful applicants may apply for further exhibition support. Maximum production budget: €70.000.

Authored Works
The purpose of Authored Works is to provide film artists with the creative and editorial freedom to make a feature-length cultural film work from a strong artistic point of view. One film will be supported in 2020. A total fund of €200,000 will be made available to the successful applicant (to include a production budget of €185,000 and further exhibition support of €15,000). Only films that can be made within this budget will be considered. The film must be completed to premiere at the Irish Film Institute, our exhibition partner, at an agreed date in 2022.
