26 February 2021: Ireland’s newest electricity provider bright, which offers only 100% green energy, has picked up its first award for Best Electricity Plan (new customers) at the 2021 Bonkers.ie National Consumer Awards.

According to Bonkers.ie, the electricity market in Ireland has never been more competitive with 13 providers looking to attract and retain new customers and newest entrant, bright, has managed to differentiate its offering with a novel approach to pricing and a great mobile app.  Consumers are looking for the simplest way to buy their energy and in particular, green energy and the bonkers.ie judges acknowledged bright’s new fair and transparent approach to its pricing.

Since its launch last summer, bright has always promised to be different with:

  • One single variable tariff:  Unlike other providers, bright has just one rate making charges and bills easier to understand, thereby keeping things simple for customers.  The rate will track the wholesale market so that when prices fall, savings can be passed on to bright’s customers quickly.
  • No tie ins or exit fees: Such is bright’s confidence in its offering, customers will not be tied into a long-term contract and there are no exit fees if you do decide to leave.
  • 100% green energy: Brightwill offer only 100% green energy, buying it from renewable generators across ROI and NI and on the wholesale electricity market. Initially supplying electricity, bright will enter the gas supply market later in the year.
  • Technology: Bright is using the latest technology to ensure a user-friendly experience for customers via the bright App, where they can submit a meter reading and manage and track usage and costs.  This means no billing surprises.

Bright CEO, Ciaran Devine, said: “We’ve worked really hard to be able to offer consumers something different, while simultaneously ensuring we keep things simple, as they should be. It’s amazing to be recognised so soon after our market launch and this award is a testament to the brilliant team behind the scenes that make the bright magic happen for our customers.

“Thousands of people have already made the quick switch to bright over the past eight months, saving, on average, €1551 per year on their home energy bills.”

Almost two thirds (61%) of bright’s customers manage their energy via the bright app, managing payments, submitting meter readings and accessing energy saving advice and offers from their personal device.

Bonkers.ie is Ireland’s largest comparison and switching website.  Its annual awards recognise and celebrate companies that have excelled, going above and beyond for their customers.
