Louise Byrne, Head of Brexit and International Trade Division, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine
Louise Byrne grew up on a family farm in rural Ireland. She
graduated from University College Dublin in 1996 with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science Degree (specialising in Animal Science) followed by a Masters in Agricultural Science. In addition to her Agricultural qualifications Louise holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law.
Louise has worked for the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine since 1998, primarily in areas relating to animal breeding and official controls along the agri food and feed chain. Louise was appointed Head of Brexit and International Trade Division in March 2019 where she has responsibility for coordinating the Department’s response to the UK decision to leave the EU, with a current focus on achieving the optimum policy framework for the Irish agri-food and fisheries sector and the rural economy in the wake of Brexit and in the context of developments in the international trading environment more widely, including EU Free Trade Agreements with third countries and WTO agreements.
