4 December 2019
The choirs of Dublin Choral Foundation, the Lassus Scholars and
Piccolo Lasso will present The ESB Great Christmas Concert at the
National Concert Hall on Tuesday 17 December 2019 at 8pm.
Proudly sponsored again by ESB, the Great Christmas Concert celebrates
the continued success of Ireland’s foremost musical festival, Feis
Ceoil, founded in 1897.
On this special occasion the Lassus Scholars and Piccolo Lasso, with
conductor Dr Ite O’Donovan, will be joined by the Orlando Chamber
Orchestra, under leader Gillian Williams.
Special Guests include Lassus, Dublin Choral Foundation’s fully
professional Chamber Choir, who will sing polychoral Christmas motets by
Renaissance Composer Orlande de Lassus after whom all the choirs have
been named.
Two wonderful soprano soloists, Blathnaid Conroy Murphy and Eileen
Coyle, members of Lassus, will perform duets and solos including
Laudamus Te (from Vivaldi’s Gloria), Reger’s Maria Wiegenlied and
Mendelssohn’s Sit laus plena.
Feis Ceoil 2019 prizewinners Maria Rojas (oboe) and Niamh Huethorst
(French horn) will have the opportunity of playing concerto movements by
Mozart with the Orlando Chamber Orchestra.
Katie Richardson McCrea who began her singing career at age nine as a
member of Piccolo Lasso and won the Contralto and Oratorio prizes in
Feis Ceoil this year will sing ‘But who may abide’ from Handel’s
Messiah.
As always The Lassus Scholars & Piccolo Lasso will sing rousing
choruses, including Vivaldi’s Gloria (1st movt.) and Christmas Music
from Messiah. There will be plenty of opportunities for audience
participation in carols and Chrismas songs and a chance to sing-a-long
in the “Hallelujah Chorus”.
Tickets priced €13 – €35 are available from the NCH Box Office — www.nch.ie or 01 4170000.
This popular family event is no ordinary concert.
It’s an occasion not to be missed!
