DUBLIN – A number of changes have been made to the Ireland Wolves travelling party for their forthcoming tour to Bangladesh where they will play a multi-format eight-match series against Bangladesh A.

The key changes are that Head Coach Pete Johnston and George Dockrell have chosen not to opt in to the tour. Graham Ford and Stuart Barnes will now oversee the whole tour from a coaching perspective, and a replacement player will be announced shortly.

Andrew White, Chair of National Men’s Selectors, said:

“We completely respect the decision of George not to opt in, and fully understand Pete’s decisions based around family circumstances. The playing and coaching group have been busy preparing for the trip in line with COVID protocols, and we look forward to a competitive month of cricket ahead.”

“We expect to be in a position to announce a replacement for George shortly.”

“One name that was missing from discussions on selection for this tour was David Delany. As fans know, David withdrew from the recent UAE tour after suffering knee pain after a warm-up game. Being the same knee he injured at the 2019 T20 World Cup Qualifier, our medical staff have been very cautious. A scan of his knee back in Dublin revealed a further but minor tear of the lateral meniscus, and was subsequently repaired surgically. David has been undergoing rehab and is doing very well, but was not considered for this tour – instead he will continue rehab and preparation for the forthcoming home season.”

NOTES TO EDITORS

  • The Ireland Wolves is a squad created in 2017 to bridge the gap between domestic first-class and international cricket. The concept of the Wolves is to provide competitive international-standard cricket for fringe senior players, as well as provide the opportunity for development of younger talent coming through the international pathway system.
  • In recent years, the squad has toured Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and South Africa, and have achieved remarkable List A wins over Bangladesh and Zimbabwe senior men’s teams at home in 2019, and an away series victory in 2020 against the senior Namibia team.
