Dublin, 19th May 2021 – Welltel, Ireland’s largest dedicated business communications provider, has acquired Irish secure connectivity and cloud solutions specialist, Strencom. The enlarged company forecasts revenues of €38m this year. This acquisition completes Welltel’s managed secure connectivity and cloud services portfolio and makes it Ireland’s largest business communications company and the leading one-stop communications and managed IT services provider.

Strencom’s highly-skilled 30 employees across connectivity, cloud, sales, and operations will bring the total headcount at Welltel to 180. Strencom will continue to trade as a standalone brand in the interim.

Dublin and Cork-based Strencom is a leading provider of managed secure connectivity and cloud services, solving business-disrupting network and security problems for customers.

This is the latest deal in Welltel’s ‘buy-and-build’ strategy, which saw it acquire contact centre specialist Capstone Intelligent Solutions last month, with further acquisitions to follow this year across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

This deal will enhance Welltel’s product suite with the addition of Strencom’s secure data connectivity, cloud infrastructure and managed hosting solutions. The company can also leverage Strencom’s nationwide network.

Welltel will cross-sell to both customer bases following the acquisition. Its customers can access Strencom’s secure managed connectivity and cloud services such as online backup and storage-as-a-service, and Strencom customers can benefit from the addition of voice solutions with Welltel’s end-to-end communications, telephony, and managed IT services.

Strencom’s loyal customer base includes Europcar, Fujifilm, DPS, Alliance Medical, and Insomnia Coffee, with more clients across retail and financial services.

Already a leader in unified communications (UC), Welltel’s services will now cover the entire enterprise market. Strencom’s UK-based customers will also increase Welltel’s UC capabilities in the UK market, with two points of presence there.

Welltel plans to leverage Strencom’s infrastructure to grow its channel relationships, and build on its partnerships with Cisco, Fortinet and Pao Alto. Strencom’s platform is also the only VMware cloud-certified platform in Ireland.

Ross Murray, CEO, Welltel: “We are delighted to announce the addition of Strencom to the Welltel portfolio as part of our wider acquisition strategy for growth. Strencom’s secure managed connectivity and cloud solutions expertise rounds out our offering for Irish enterprises.

“Strencom’s secure data connectivity, cloud infrastructure and managed hosting are new services for the group, and when layered with Welltel’s specialist voice solutions, creates a one-stop provider for business customers. It drives our secure connectivity proposition and offers a natural migration path to the secure cloud. This is especially important with the acceleration of the digital workplace, and in securing the hybrid workforce of the future.

“Strencom’s talented team and long-standing client base mirrors Welltel’s customer service ethos, and its positive feedback with a score of 76% on Net Promotor further underlines its commitment to customers.

As a company headquartered in Ireland, Strencom is fully in control of all customer information with worldclass data centre facilities in Dublin and Cork. This base in Cork also bolsters our regional presence and builds on our existing locations in Cork and Kildare. We are also delighted to add to our customer base in the UK with Strencom’s business there too.”

Tim Murphy, CEO, Strencom: The acquisition by Welltel allows us to achieve our ambitions for growth within the Irish market and we are delighted with the joining of these two great brands.

“In addition, this is a great fit for Strencom staff and customers, as it provides more opportunities for the business as well as offering a greater depth of solutions with the added portfolio of unified communications and IT services that Welltel brings. In Welltel, I see a shared purpose with Strencom as well as similar core values, and after 20 years building Strencom from the ground up, it was important that any acquirer would be right for both staff and customers, and I think we have achieved that with Welltel.

“I look forward with renewed excitement and vigour to Strencom’s next chapter. Welltel is now unique in the market, being Ireland’s largest dedicated business communications provider.”
