– Businesses invited to celebrate their ‘invisible’ workforce on October 21st –
The importance of cleaning has taken centre stage this year, but the essential work of our cleaning staff is even more likely to go unseen as working habits change. That’s according to the Irish Contract Cleaning Association who today (29.09.20) launched the third annual Thank Your Cleaner Day initiative in Ireland, powered by Kärcher.
The ICCA, whose membership represents approximately 27,000 people working within the commercial cleaning industry across Ireland, are working with Kärcher to empower businesses to take a creative approach to Thank Your Cleaner Day 2020, in light of public health guidance and varying local restrictions.
Businesses are encouraged to shine a light on cleaning staff on Wednesday, 21st October through special activities such as socially distanced coffee mornings, special awards to recognise their efforts during the pandemic and gestures from the wider team such as thank you cards from colleagues.
Speaking at today’s launch, Avril McCarthy, Chair of the Irish Contract Cleaning Association said that these gestures of recognition are more important than ever before for cleaning staff: “The work of our contract cleaners has been vital throughout the reopening of society and continues to be as businesses learn to live with the pandemic, but at the same time, the need to reduce close contact of staff and a widespread move to working from home, means than cleaning staff may see even less of their colleagues than usual.
“Thank Your Cleaner Day is a fantastic opportunity for offices and retailers to bridge that gap and show their appreciation and gratitude for the essential service of the contract cleaning staff who continue to keep our working environments safe during this extraordinary year.”
Derek Ivory, Manager of Facilities and Procurement at FBD Insurance said his team will be celebrating their colleagues from Derrycourt Cleaning Specialists on Thank Your Cleaner Day: “They have always been an asset to FBD offices nationally. On a daily basis, coming to work at a hygienic and fresh environment is something that can be taken for granted and should not be. The team have really stepped up when helping us to respond to the pandemic, in a friendly and professional manner.
“Our cleaners, Ann and Enkhtuya, have been friendly faces for everyone returning to the office after shutdown, greeting people warmly and adding a little lightness to people’s days. It would be a more anxious place without them.”
First established by Kärcher in New Zealand in 2014, Thank Your Cleaner Day is a global initiative celebrated in over 30 countries worldwide.
Kärcher Ireland is supporting businesses to get involved with employer toolkits and suggested activities available at www.thankyourcleanerday.com.
