Dublin, 20 October 2020: LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, is launching LinkedIn Stories in Ireland, a new way to see and share everyday work moments with your community.
From today, Ireland’s two million LinkedIn members can share photos and videos up to 20 seconds long using the mobile app, which will be visible on their profiles for 24 hours. Stories can be personalised with text and themed stickers, or start a conversation through “Question of the Day” prompts.
The past seven months has seen a blurring of professional and personal lives as much of the Irish workforce found themselves working from home. With the extension of home life into virtual offices, the dynamics between coworkers and professional networks has shifted, and people are increasingly relying on their online networks to stay in touch. This is reflected in the way people are using LinkedIn – with a 55% year-on-year increase in conversations among connections and a 60% rise in content creation on the platform.
From untimely interruptions from children to dogs barking over presentations, the shared experience of working from home has created social ties in the way office life only skimmed. With water cooler moments moving online, LinkedIn Stories offers another way to share insights into people’s everyday working lives, and stay connected to their professional community.
Katie Carroll, Senior Managing Editor, Daily News at LinkedIn News, comments: “Staying connected, personally and professionally, has never been so important. During lockdown our members have been using LinkedIn to keep in touch with colleagues and contacts – whether for seeking advice, new opportunities or just to catch up. We see Stories as a natural continuation of this more personal connection with colleagues, and we have already seen hundreds of thousands of new conversations sparked via Stories.
“Whether it’s sharing scenes from a virtual happy hour with your team, or showcasing your side-hustle, the launch of Stories in Ireland will give our members a new way to connect with their network over daily work content and more casual conversations.”
Some tips on how to get the best from LinkedIn Stories:
- Be relevant.
With LinkedIn Stories you can share information quickly and respond to the latest headlines and current events. Share what’s important to you and your industry, making sure the content you create is relevant to your followers and audience, be it important industry news, new product launches, market insights or other inspiration.
- Show your professional side with a human touch.
People like to interact with people. Stories are an authentic way for you to share what’s happening at work and in the news. Share real-time event announcements and news updates as and when they happen such as photos of your work-from-home set-up, or novel virtual networking ideas. Authenticity is key.
- Be fun and creative with your network.
Stories can provide a more creative and casual way to share your day-to-day. Host a Q&A, share career tips or give an insight into what your “day to day” looks like now many of us are working from home.
- Grow your community.
LinkedIn Stories is the perfect way to spark conversations with your professional community, enhancing valuable connections.
The best tip of all is to just do it. Stories don’t have to be perfect as long as they are authentic and relevant to your network.
